San Francisco Part 2

Our second full day, (which was also our last day with Susan and Scott) we started out taking the bus to the famous "Painted Ladies" from the TV show Full House. They weren't as impressive as we hoped, but were still fun to look at and it was a nice day (as they all were). I loved the weather there. It was in the 60's most of the time and sunny which meant light jacket weather and warm enough to take it off mid-day. It was such a welcome relief from the heat spell we'd been having here in Tennessee.

From up on the hill of the painted ladies, we could see this beautiful dome.  We knew it couldn't be the capitol since that is in Sacramento, but Susan and I wanted to see what it was, and poor Scott wasn't as excited about the dome hunt.  But, he came along and didn't complain. :)  We walked toward the dome until we found it, and it was the CITY HALL...pretty fancy for a city hall!  Susan said it was even more ornate than the capitol of Washington

The city hall was in the theatre district of SF.  Across the street was the building that houses the symphony

And across the street the other way was the Opera House

We were allowed to go inside, and this is the inside of the dome

High windows with pillars and balconies

Princess stairs

Here I'm next to an old-fashioned mailbox

This strange sculpture was in the courtyard across from the city hall...girl face on one side with boy face on the other and arms sprawling out everywhere.

We met Eric for lunch at the Burger Bar

Our view from the Burger Bar

After lunch, we headed back to the hotel and Susan and Scott got packed up and ready to leave.  They had to leave the hotel around 3pm.  Eric was able to come back during his break to see them off.  It was sad to see them go and I had two  hours of loneliness before Eric was out of class at 5.

After his class, we went to dinner at Espetus Brazilian Steakhouse.  It was a place that he'd wanted to try ever since we got there on recommendation from his friend who used to live there.  Espetus had a unique style of dining.  They had a large salad bar with lots of hot dishes and salads.  Then, they had 14 signature cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and shrimp on large skewers slowly roasted on open flame.  They were served straight from the fire to your table by Brazilian Gaucho Chefs operating under the unique service concept of what they call Rodizio or continuous service.  They were constantly coming around to our table to offer us another type of meat on a skewer where they would slice you a piece right there at your table and we'd pick it up with our tongs.  There were many delicious meats and you could eat as much as you wanted.  It was good.

Usually we appreciate a window seat, but at this place, it wasn't the best area in SF.  We were placed by the window and got to watch homeless people pace back and forth.  It made me feel a little guilty for eating so much good food while they were hungry, but it also made me wonder what type of circumstances caused their current situation.  Some of them were very nasty and creepy too.  All of this kind of made me lose my appetite, but the food really was good.

You finally made it to the Brazilian steakhouse! I'm glad the food was good even though you had a not so good view. Scott did not like all the homeless people in San Francisco. He said it made him feel bad. It makes you wonder sometimes how they get to be that way.
