17 Years

August 12, 2010, our 17th anniversary, came the day before Jesikah's birthday(just like it always does).  This sometimes causes problems to have these two days so close.  This year, the only day we could get away together was the day after our anniversary (Jesikah's birthday) due to scheduling conflicts.  So, Jesikah really got 3 days of birthday (the day before, presents the day of, and party the day after).  But, we were gone the evening of her real birthday.

We left around 4:00pm after watching Jesikah open her presents after school.  We had a plan.  We were going to Nashville to shop for a fairway wood golf club for Eric (a gift from me for our anniversary), eat at Texas Roadhouse (which we'd been wanting to try for awhile), have frozen custard for dessert at one of two options.  Eric had the golf shop picked out, and I had the food covered.  I had the addresses, phone numbers, hours, and had even read reviews on these places.  The evening should have gone smooth.

The trip to Nashville was pleasant and went as planned.  We found the golf store right away.  After spending quite some time in the golf store, Eric couldn't find the club he wanted and was frustrated by the high prices.  Finally we left empty-handed with him being a little grumpy.  We headed to dinner.  We found the place where Texas Roadhouse was...the windows were boarded up and the restaurant was no longer in business.  We wouldn't be eating there.

The mall was closeby so we went in to find a place to eat inside.  We could only see fast food places which wasn't what we had in mind.  We got back in the car to head to Green Hills Mall where we knew we could at least find the Cheesecake Factory.

As we started to head out, we passed a golf store.  I told Eric he should just stop and see if they had the club he wanted.  He immediately turned around and went in.  I stayed in the car cause I was on the phone with Tessa who was crying and saying Alex was being mean.  Things just were not going as planned...

After rectifying the problem at home, I sat in the car wondering if we should have even bothered going out.  After waiting 15-20 minutes, I decided that he must have found something, so I went inside.  Sure enough, he was back hitting it into the virtual screen where it tells you how far it went, etc. etc.  He was having a great time, and the guy was giving him some helpful tips, so I sat down to watch.  The club was the one he wanted, but the helpful store man was SO helpful that he pointed Eric in the direction of a full set of clubs that were barely used for a steal of a deal.  Needless to say, he couldn't pass these up, and these turned out to be his birthday present (next post).  By the time we left the store, it was probably almost 8pm, and we still hadn't eaten.  I was starving.  He was happy and it was time to find a place to eat.  We arrived at Green Hills and decided to try the Italian place: Carrabbas.  It was very, very good and we had a romantic and delicious dinner with an excellent waiter.   After eating, we still wanted to find the frozen custard places.  We found the addresses for both of them (which were both no longer in business)...ugh!  By now though, we were laughing at our misfortune.  We actually enjoyed our time together driving through nice areas in Nashville trying to find these places.  We had an enjoyable drive home regardless of the fact that we didn't find the custard and all in all, had what turned out to be a very good anniversary in the end.

I am so grateful for my good husband.  I really believe that we become more in love with each other every year that we are married.  As I think of all the things we've shared (good and bad),  I can't imagine sharing my life with anyone else.  I love you, Eric.
