When I asked Tessa what type of cake she wanted, she said that she wanted either a balloon cake or a Lego cake. She eventually decided on the balloon cake. Since Jesikah has been learning cake decorating from Sister Warren, she taught us a little trick. We use the Viva paper towels about 10 minutes after we frost it and it makes it perfectly smooth. When Eric was in medical school, he learned
effleurage. It is a light stroking technique used in massage. It is used often for massaging the sinuses for drainage. With all my sinus problems, this skill has come in handy on many occasions, but I never thought of using it on a cake. Anyway, he used this technique with the paper towel on the cake and it turned out BEAUTIFULLY!!

Look how perfectly smooth that is! |

Since we had extra cake leftover from making the balloon, we decided to make a Lego too! |

Eric formed Starbursts into circles for the Lego brick. |
I really liked how they both turned out! We went out to dinner to Tessa's choice of Golden Corral on Saturday. I ate too much and felt a bit sick the rest of evening. We finished the cakes on her birthday(Sunday June 5), but since she was feeling quite sick(she has had a fever and has felt pretty sick for several days), we didn't eat them until Monday. Then, she will have her friend party this weekend.
I felt bad that she was sick on her birthday. She didn't really feel up to much.

Being sick on your birthday is no fun at all! Glad you still managed to go out to dinner & have cake later. Happy belated birthday!
neat cake! It certainly does look perfectly smooth! You all are so creative, I was just thinking how fun that must be that you all enjoy doing that kind of stuff together. Happy birthday Tessa!
